Well, you have to encode it to some format. Uncompressed RGB is enormous. GK must not be selecting xvid/divx for some reason.

Unless it is encoding, but you selected an extremely high bitrate (like 15000).

How do I determine if encoding has taken place? Is it possible to find out from the AVS script

No. :logfile: A long shot, but - you are not setting your target filesize as 3 GB, are you?

No, I am setting the size as 1 CD. Also, the first pass is over is about 2 hours. The second pass does not end. I get a messages saying

Can not process the temp_movie.avi because the file is already in use by other process.

and the process terminates.

Is is the avisynth settings? Thanks, please help !!

No, it's not the avisynth script. That one is very straightforward, so it must be something else.

Can not process the temp_movie.avi because the file is already in use by other process.

Any anti-virus sofware running in the background? If so, terminate it and retry.

It was working before regardless of whether the antivirus was one or not. The first pass creates temp_movie of size 3GB while the second pass gives that error can not process the temp_movie.avi because the file is already in use by other process. . So I have both the problems.

I am unable to figure the reason behind the problem. I have not done any setting changes since then. Are there any software that may be incompatible with avisynth 2.5?

I would be greatful for any help that anybody can give me.

Avisynth isn't to blame here. Forget about that idea.

"A file being in use by another process" looks like this stupid "I can't rename such avi file" XP bug.

Are you leaving your explorer window open ? If so try closing it before the encoding starts.

You might want to clean the output directory before starting a new encode. I've had that sort of problem too some weeks ago.

If all this doesn't help, I would try one last thing : kill explorer.exe before hitting the "Encode" button, and see if second pass works (uncomment this line first : #SelectRangeEvery(280,14), re-comment it after to do your full encode).

Windows has always been a little randomish you know ;)

Thanks DarkZell,

I will try that as soon as possible. Would anybody help me with the size issue creating 3 GB files.

Thanks,

+1 for foxyshadis' first post about the 3GB issue. GK must skip your XviD and/or DivX codec (if you have any) and fallback into uncompressed RGB or YV12. I'd plainly and simply uninstall all your codecs and GK and reinstall everything if I was in your situation.

In fact, you haven't told us much about what you were trying to do ... creating avi files with GK doesn't mean much. Were you trying to encode with XviD or DivX ? Someone asked if GK worked with DivX 6 and someone else answered "yes", but with some trickery. If you're in that case, try XviD instead, or find an old DivX 5 install.

If you're ripping a DVD (which seems to be the case), I think you should consider using AutoGK (with the latest beta update), which handles DivX 6.

Mind you, it could be the audio part that's not working. Like if GK was encoding the audio into .wav and muxing that into the .avi file. (.wav is ~10MB/minute)

In my GK , I specifically set the codec to XVID for encoding purpose. I tried using AutoGK , i even have the tutorials. I just am used to using GK with the settings that I have. Anyway, I will try it again and will let you know.

Thanks so much DarkZell, Foxyshadis for your help.

Can anybody tell me what codec pack to use? I am using KLite Codec pack. Hoping for a reply.

Thanks,

Hi,

Getting in this thread late. If I have it right, suggestion is to use AGK with Xvid codec to see if you can bypass your problem...

If so get rid of any codec pack see: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=510418#post510418
and do a clean install of AutoGk that will install all is needed: 3rd party progs like avisynth, Vdubmod... and Xvid codec.
you will need to download the 2.27 stable and eventually the 2.32 update from: http://www.autogk.me.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads

Hi Darkzell,

I tried your method to uncomment of one line and do an encode. The size of the file comes to a very small 252K. As for as the other problem with the second pass, moment the second pass starts, the program returns the error no matter what.

Grateful for any help.

About 4 days ago, Unskinnyboy recommended that you :logfile:

It is still excellent advice, as your problem might have been solved by now if it were due to setting / configuration / operation and not some sort of bug. Consider posting two of them; one with your 3GB problem, and one with your tiny output.

Better information = better problem resolution

Where do I get the log file from? I am sorry for not knowing this. But I am a newbie at this.

In the folder you use for GK execution, where your .avs file, .vob files, and your .avi files her files are located .... look for a file with the name "<your movie>_GKnot.log". Obviously, replace <your movie> with the name of your indivdiual file name.

Copy the text from it and paste it into the thread.
