Hi-
It's not needed in many (most?) cases. There's nothing to prevent you from sticking it in the script yourself. The only filter on by default is Undot.

From my experience most DVDs use Rec.709 (or similar) co-efficients.
Did I misunderstand the use of this filter?
I thought that this was useful to correct color differences, if you had a source like a DVD, encoded with Rec.709, and wish to transcode it to a Rec.601 format like mpeg4, mpeg1 or maybe mpeg2 with tmpg.

You understood the use of this filter alright, but your answer lies in your question itself -> *most* DVDs use ITU-R BT.709, but not *all*. There are many DVDs which uses SMPTE 170M or ITU-R BT.480-2 or even something else. Then there are the rare ones with changing colorimetries. Hence it wouldn't make sense to make ColorMatrix a default. It falls under the "use if needed" bracket, where it should be.

just thought it might be added as an option in the program.
Colormatrix/DGdecode can auto read the colorimetry and adjust accordingly.
Not all DVDs are interlaced but there are options in GKnot for deinterlacing.

Default - No (reasons already explained above).
Optional - Yes. You don't see it? I do:
