Ms Mpeg4 V3

Hello, PROs.

There is this .avi file which, when attempted to open in VDubMod, generates an error message that Microsoft MPEG4 V3 video codec is needed, and only direct stream copy will be available. Clips cut out of this file (which plays fine in my WMP10) in VDubMod shows (in the same WMP10) visualizations instead of video, with the audio playing normally.

AngelPotion1 helped, but generated another message that it was a bad hack of the original, and I should be careful.

I searched Microsoft's website for MPEG4 V3, without success. I googled, but without success again. I mean, I didn't get anything that's MPEG4 V3 and downloadable and executable without hassle.

Can you experts please help?

Regardless, the wmv9vcm will probably play this (I think it's aka WMV8). <-- wrong, see post below

For MS MPEG-4 V3 (DivX 3) I would suggest ffdshow there is a decoder available from Microsoft though and I would definatly stay clear of AngelPotion. If you have DivX 5.x or 6.x installed then changing the fourCC from mp43 to DIV3 should also work.

WMV 8 is WMV2 by the way.
