Hi,

I've been using AutoGK for some time with no problem so far and it's a great tool.
Lately I bought a DVD burner with HDD (Panasonic DMR-EH65). I want to convert my old VHS tapes in DivX. So I first convert them into DVD files with the Panasonic. Then I load the DVD files on my PC and use AutoGK to convert them in DivX. But here it doesn't work (I tried with DivX and XviD) : when I click the preview button, AutoGK works normally but in the end I have no image and no sound. Here is the preview log :

[25/07/2006 18:30:44] AutoGK 2.27
[25/07/2006 18:30:44] OS: WinXP (5.1.2600).2
[25/07/2006 18:30:44] Job started.
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Processing file: C:\Temp\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Processing file: C:\Temp\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_2.VOB
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Processing file: C:\Temp\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Processing file: C:\Temp\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOB
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Source resolution: 352x240
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Found NTSC source.
[25/07/2006 18:33:20] Source aspect ratio: 4:3
[25/07/2006 18:33:21] Output will contain 182258 frames
[25/07/2006 18:33:21] Job finished. Total time: 2 minutes 36 seconds

One strange thing is that AutoGK says that the source is NTSC while it is supposed to be PAL. GSpot indicates that the first VOB file is NTSC and all the other files are PAL. Could it be the cause of the problem ? I have no problem to read the DVD files, either on my PC or on my 2 DVD players.
I tried to convert my files in DivX with EasyDivx, it doesn't work either. It worked with FairUse though, but I'd prefer to convert with AutoGK.
Any idea about my problem ? And I'd like to know if there are people here who successfully used AutoGK to convert their own DVDs in DivX/XviD ?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Nobody seems to have exactly the same problem...

I recall vaguely on this forum or another having read about difficulties with mpeg2 (or VOB) streams made by home DVD burner.

You could try "cleaning" your sources files before encoding to make them more compliant with:
1/ Fix VTS or
2/ DVDDecrypter (IFO mode) or
3/ DVDShrink (re-author mode)

and try again after ...
Just my 2 cents.

It seems that the problem came from the DVD+RW format because I tried with a DVD-RW and AutoGK was able to process the files. And no more this NTSC format for the first VOB file.

"352x240" is a NTSC resolution. For PAL, it should be 352x288. Also if you really want to use DVD as an intermediate (maybe a lack of analogue capture equipment in the PC?), I suggest you to maximize the quality. Try to use the highest quality mode in the DVD recorder (as you are using RW already). Otherwise, the quality of the DivX AVI will be greatly reduced.
