I read somewhere on Microsoft's site that XP Home doesn't support multithreading, and it's only XP Pro. However, I have no clue as to whether that's just the OS that's not multithreading friendly, or the applications. Can anybody shed any light on this?

XP Home supports Dual-Core CPU´s ... Had it installed a while ago and my X2 3800+ had 2 Cores :)

XP home did not support it originally but it does now, if not officially.
Much like XP pro not supporting RAID5 but server does. XP pro has the functionality just it is disabled. A simple edit will have the XP system up and running. Although, I am not sure if it is legal even though the software includes it.
Hidden features abound.

XP home supports dual core but not dual socket. (As UofC says, it's mostly a licensing restriction that can be disabled with some judicious hacking, like most of the other home-vs-pro differences. All MS licensing is on a per-cpu basis.)
