i just come from a first pass wherw Q2 gave 2300 kbits,
and Q3 with matrix starting at 12 gave 1500 kbits....
now, 2x17=34, and 3x12=36, small difference in quantizers but big in size.....

The correlation between quantizers, bitrate and quality is not linear :)

Just to illustrate the whole thing : difference between Q1 and Q2 is much more impressive ... Animes episodes @ Q1 will only fit into 1GB or more, whereas @ Q2 they'll often fit into less than 350MB.
I don't get the point about the CQM starting with a 12 rather than an 8. Last time I tried to edit my own custom matrix in XviD, the first cell was locked with an 8 inside.

that is the second number, 17 in the standard matrix...
