View Full Version : Problem with preview in PgcEdit

I have a problem with a certain DVD when I try to edit it in PgcEdit (latest version).

There's a 10 seconds warning I'd like to remove from a menu domain, before the main menu pops up. The warning is 10 secs of ("still") video with some music playing. In PgcEdit's PGC overview panel to the left, it says 10 seconds playback ("0:10"). Same in the PGC Editor window. But if I preview the PGC (or the one cell in the PGC), the preview window acts as if the video consists of a single frame (0 secs) only, which it clearly does not. Cell still time is 0.

I've uploaded the IFOs from the DVD here (http://home25.inet.tele.dk/dvdkat/dvd.rar). The warning in question is located in VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 14. The preview seems to work fine with other menu PGCs in the DVD. Also, I haven't noticed this problem with other DVDs, either.

The video can be the same frame but 10 seconds refers to the audio muxed in with it. That would make it appear as a still.

Ahh, I thought the video stream had to be a 10 seconds stream (with the same pic in all frames, in my case), to match the length of the audio stream.

I guess I was confused by the term "Playback time" in PgcEdit. I thought a playback time of 0:10 would always let me preview a 10 seconds clip... I reckon that would be the case, too, if the AVI2DVD preview code had audio support.

It is also possible to create a long PGC (say 10 seconds) with only one frame and no audio (nor subpics.) DVD-Lab Pro, for example, creates the slide shows this way. However, in this case, I find it more convenient to specify the duration via the cell still-time.

BTW, in DVD Shrink, a PGC like this one appear with only one frame. The rest of the video appear as gray (the background color of the window.)

Wouldn't it be more "correct" to have the PgcEdit preview actually preview 10 seconds of video, showing the same frame all the way through?

I mean, that's what I see when the DVD is played on a standalone, or in a normal software player.

That's right, but the preview is somewhat basic, and it displays the MPEG stream, without trying to respect the info in the nav packs.
Also, IMO, it is good to see the exact number of frames that is really contained in the file.
