Just bought one from Best Buy, but have 30 days to return it. So it may end up being a "loaner". Any opinions on this player?
The owners manual mentions that the blu-ray format may be enhanced. If this is true, are there any planned dates for format enhancments?
Should I return it and wait for a different player to be released (as suggested by my wife)?

I don't own that player and if this is the way Blu-ray is going, I probably never will, but I had found this (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=22593) review quite informative when I was doing some research on the format wars some time back. That should answer all your questions, hopefully.

By-the-way...
Are you able to connect the Samsung to your home network and stream files to it?
Toshiba's HD-A1 comes with an ethernet port but does not offer the ability to stream and decode files :(
Personally, I would consider buying any "blue laser" player if it didn't offer the ability to be used as an High Definition Network Media Player...
Having all that wonderful electronics sitting in a box and only being able to use it to spin "discs" seems a right waste to me

Thanks for the input. It's packed up ready for return. Glad I only bought 2 movies, Terminator 1 and 2. T1 didn't look much better, but T2 looked better than the regular DVD version.
