I am having trouble burning a couple DVD's. They seem to burn fine with no errors but when I play them they skip. Sometimes when it skips you can rewind it and play it back and it won't skip the second time. Sometimes it will skip everytime. I usually run them through DVDFab Decrypter then DVD Shrink and burn them with DVD Decrypter. Is my burning process the cause of this or is it something else. Thanks for the help.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.
While there is no 100% guarantee that your problem is a media<>burner and/or media<>player compatibility problem, the odds are high.
Look to the media, burner, and player databases at www.videohelp.com for specifics about the products you are using:

The standard rule of thumb to maximize compatibility with players and media is to never exceed half the rated burn speed of either drive or disc, whichever is slower.

It is a rule of thumb, but sometimes those can or must be broken. Example: DVD-R media "CMC MAG. AE1" needs to be burned at 8X in my Lite-on SHW-160P6S for best reliability. The other speed options I have for that media -- 4X and 6X -- produce worse results. Granted, at 8X, it isn't wonderful, but it's better.

I hate to admit it but I have no idea what you guys are talking about lol. I should also say that it doesn't do it with every DVD I burn just a few. Thank again.

We're talking about 2 things: Incompatibility between the media -- the discs you burn -- and either your burner or player, or both. Not only are there many types of burnable media (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, DVD-R9, etc.) which may or may not be generally usable with your burner and player, but the manufacture of many of these differ slightly. Just because your media says "DVD-R" doesn't mean that every burner or player that also says "DVD-R" can use it. Look up your player, your media, and your burner in the links I provided above, and see what people have written about them. We also discussed burning speed, measured in some multiple of X, which, for DVD-R, is 1385KB/s. e.g.: 4X = 5540KB/s, 8X = 11080KB/s, etc.

In other words, don't use the auto-detect or "fastest" burn speed, especially if you have a 16X drive and 16X media. Lower it manually to 8X in that example.

Sometimes when it skips you can rewind it and play it back and it won't skip the second time. Sometimes it will skip everytime.Another possibility is that your player might benefit from the use of a DVD/CD cleaning disc. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US...

thanks for the help I will check the compatibility and slow the speed down and see it that helps.
