CCE-SP(2): Only Silence in audio stream!!

I'm trying to re-encode mpeg2 files (created with Vegas 6), containing video + audio, but regardless whether I encode in System- or Elementary-Mode, the resulting file has just silence in the audio stream or the seperate audio file is all silence (either WAV or mpeg1). What am I doing wrong? Do I have to install some sort of audio plugin for CCE? I have CCE SP 2.70.02.06 and also the new CCE SP2, the same problems occurs with either one. When I encode divx/xvid files in CCE it works fine. Can anyone help?

Don't use CCE to encode audio, use something like TMPEGEnc to multiplex the re-encoded video with audio. DGIndex can demultiplex the Vegas mpeg for you.
