All plusing I tried so far are stereo enhancers, none of them creates a stereo file out of a mono one. Do you know of any solution (freeware or affordable) that can do so?

Have you tried GoldWave?

Hi,

I use audacity with a VST plugin called mda_stereo. Sometimes results are good, sometimes is preferable left sound as mono. But is free. Get it at:

Good luck

Try Elevayta's Wider Boy (www.elevayta.com). Even the freeware version does some of the best mono-to-stereo processing I've ever heard. There's nothing like the real thing but for those of us who hate the sound of mono, Wider Boy is not bad at all.

setarip_old: I haven't, but it probably only has something like the TISDU method and I want something better.

AVIL: I might try mda_stereo, thanks for the advice.

ursamtl: I did a research on this subject asome time ago and I came upon a post in which you recommended this plugin. I reid it, but like I said in the OP it only seems to be a stereo enhancer and doesn't create a stereo file out of a mono one.

Wider Boy is in fact a mono-to-stereo plugin. Of course, you have to convert the mono file to two channels with the same audio in each first but then you can process it with Wider Boy.

I was going to try something like that but it's good to hear it is indeed the way to go, thanks for the tip :). Are there any free VST plugins that give equal or better results than Wider Boy Pro?

None I've heard. mda_stereo is also good but not better, in my opinion.

Sometimes a combination is the best. Try Wider Boy along with Convo Boy (free convolution plug-in also from elevayta) and some quality impulse responses. Noisevault (http://noisevault.com/nv/) is one of the better sources.
