I have some HDTV programmes which I can only get to play in audio, although I thought I had an extensive set of Codecs installed. When using Media Player Classic it identifies a missing video codec, but the automated look-up feature doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Is there a site where I can utilitse the information given in the MPC diagnostics to find the correct codec?

For information, the size of the files leads me to believe that they are some flavour of x264, but I've tried some of those codecs with no joy.

What are these videos and where did you get them?

I downloaded them from a hdtv newsgroup and they are the BBC Planet Earth series.

That's a violation of our forum rules. See rule 6.

No it isn't. This series was shown as an unencrypted FTA broadcast on BBC HDTV channel, and is available to any UK licence payer. I have these myself in their broadcast format, but didn't have the knowledge to convert them to h264, so got them from someone who did.

You downloaded copyrighted materials. That's all I need to know. Challenge it through proper channels.
