I'm new to the world of video and am seeking to learn more about what tools exist out there (Linux, preferrably) to do some basic video creating and editing, etc., specifically with a goal to create video in raw YUV 4:2:0 format (and possibly later 4:4:4 and such). I've gotten far enough that I have been able to do some simple conversions (with mencoder) and resizing/cropping (with ffmpeg).
this is a bit vague, but I'd be interested in doing some basic editing (for example, could I take 4 QCIF-size images, and combine them frame-by-frame into a 4-paneled CIF-size image - in sort of a brady-bunch mode, as I call it)? Or say I want to create a simple video sequence, such as a shape of some size moving across the screen? Or even to overlay some text on an existing vid.
Anyway, I'd love to hear any suggestions as to what kinds of tools might be available for Linux to do some simple creating, editing & manipulation, with the goal of saving them in YUV 420 format.
Thanks!
