Media player classic chrashes when streaming

hi i am new here, and i have had problems trying to play internet streams, every time i typed in a URL to play a video the player chrashes and frezzez up my whole computer, forceing me to turn it off! it's really getting frustrating, i've tryied other players and they worked so i think this could be just the mpc. help would be appretiated Thanks. (Don't excatly know were to ask a question like this?)

mpc version 6.4.9.0 (k-lite codec pack)
system specs
windows XP
Laptop hp zd7000
512MB system ram
pentium 4 processer

Update your video and motherboard drivers. Any system-lockup is driver-related unless you installed something nasty.

What format are the videos?

maybe MPC downlaods it all before starting.
