Hi, I just wanted to know how I can get autogk to leave the resolution untouched?

Is there a way to disable the resize?

thanks :)

Hi,

If you are willing to do that in AGK: goto advanced settings, set "fixed width" to 720; this for DVD source. AGK will, however, autocrop (cut the black bars) but leave the movie untouched 720*xxx .

Hi BigDid, Thanks for letting me know.

I tried what you said and AutoGK encoded it at 720X416 instead of the original 720X480

I even disabled the autocrop by telling autoGK to crop 0,0,0,0 and it still crops away a very small portion of the right and left screen.

Do you have any idea what is happening?

Hi,

Same thing than 1 year ago?: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=650973#post650973

To disable autocrop, check tune autocrop and set threshold to 0 (zero), already referenced with this post: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=775680#post775680

Hehe :) I can't believe you remebered that from a year ago. Nice :D

Although the problem now is not totally the same as last years

As a matter of fact, I actually have the threshold set to 0. Sorry I forgot to mention that.

I don't know... for some reason autoGK is cropping just a tiny bit even though I tell it not to. I tried staxrip and everything was prefectly fine.

Sorry to disappoint you but I made a :search:

Well, it seems you won't be able to have exactly the original resolution.
1/ If your screenshot is taken from preview, it always is 704*xxx (not 720)
2/ You can approach orginal res by checking "override input AR" and Original

Notice how autogk crops a bit off the sides even though I disabled the autocrop and set all the values to 0.3/ Did you checked set threshold to 0 AND Tune autocrop as I recommended...

Yep, I sure did :)

I also tried it with override input AR Original as you can see in the screenshot. I've encoded this video at least 15 times with autogk using so many different settings before I even posted this topic. Each time it crops that small portion of the sides (even when selecting "auto width" for the resolution)

Is this normal?

On the other hand, StaxRip gets so close to perfection it makes me want to cry. Why is it stretching it like that as you can see in the screenshots I've posted above.

There has to be a way to get it perfect. There must be something I am doing wrong.

I don't know why staxrip has the stretch problem, I don't know why autogk has the crop/resolution problem... but if you can think of anything that I may be doing wrong please let me know because I am stumped.

The second shot (autoGK) is the only one that IS 720, the others are 852 (width).

For some reason that's how the screenshots came out but when I load them up in media player classic and hit File->Properties and check the details tab I get this Info:

Source: 720X480
AutoGK: 720X416
Staxrip: 720X480

And even though Staxrip and the source are both 720X480, the staxrip version is stretched out more than 720 (as you can see in the pic)

It's totally wierd.

It's abit dodgy for me to say this as I'm the author but give avi.NET a try and see how that deals with the screen, worth a try at least.

You are welcome, specially considering not completely succesfull.
As for other all-in-one tool you may also consider MkvMagic by Buzzqv, testing it myself actually: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=101786

and... for not crawling over the Z^X option in mkvmagic, in main page choose resize NONE. this will lead to NO autocrop and NO resize

its not enough to set crop parameters - if you want anamorphic encodes (as per DVD with not square pixels) you need to set aspect ratio as "original" in hidden options otherwise no cropping will be done but resize will.

Hi,

It seems that even the auto-crop/0+original gives a mod 16 crop. In the tests made in this post: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=860948#post860948 ,
using override input AR+ check original+ no manual crop (0+0) and 720 width gives:
720*540 = 1.33 (and mod16).

Well, "ITU resize" and "force 4:3" options should be unchecked as well (I only assumed that it was obvious :) )

:stupid:

Forgot about the "force 4:3" :(

That does it.

Is Force 4:3 in the Hidden Menu? Cause it did'nt make sense to me that if a DVD's Max res is 720x480, whey when I encode a 4:3 video to fix width of 720 does autoGK encode it to 720x544? Where is that extra resolution coming from ?

Yes, but it will automatically detect and output a 720 x 544 4:3 video if it needs to if you force a width of 720.
Where is that extra resolution coming from ?
It is stretching the video vertically.

Yes, Do you have/use AutoGK at all for asking this?

720*480 -> NTSC
720*576 -> PAL see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL
So it's not an "extra resolution", it's an auto-crop reduction from AGK if the Force 4:3 in hidden options is checked for PAL sources.
