PGCEdit Dual Layer ISO/Burn Problem

Hi I recently became aware of PGCEdit and am attempting to burn dual layer DVD's with it (+R of course), using blutach's excellent guide http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/dl_burn_guide2/dl_burning_with_pgcedit_v2.htm, for DVDs I have authored using DVDLab Pro 2.

The program is working fine for single layer, but I run into problems with dual layer. When I load up a dual layer DVD set I have authored and check the sizing with the DVD Size check under the file menu everything appears ok (Sector Size and compilation size agrees with my authoring package).

However, when I go to burn the DVD the PGCEdit burn DVD information box pops up (as it should), but tells me the number of sectors has more than doubled, as has the size of the compilation. (see attached image)

I've followed blutach's guide to the letter but can't figure out why this is happening, can anyone offer any advise as how to resolve this problem? (I'm probably making some dumb n00b mistake).

I'm using the latest PGCEdit (V7.3), on an Intel WinXP SP2 machine.

Strange. Maybe you could post a screeshot of the main PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) screen, showing the titlesets and PGCs.

Also, check the folder you have your files in. What's its size? Do you have any DVD-ROM files (files that are in the parent folder of the burn folder??) If so, move them out. I never keep my backup folders there - always in the project folder, since PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) will automatically exclude them. This goes for VobBlanker_backup, MenuShrink_backup as well as PgcEdit_backup folders.

Thankyou blutach. Yep I had my DVD project creation files in the parent directory, so I assume PGCEdit then tried to make a DVD-ROM including those files?

Moved them out of the directory into another one, and now all is fine. Well that's a lesson learnt, won't do that again.

It's exactly what happened. The DVD Size function available from the file menu doesn't take the DVD-ROM files into account. But when you launch the burn, they are included (but some special backup folders and files are automatically excluded.)
Have a look at the upper right corner of the burn dialog. 3,781,650 sectors are used by DVD-ROM files.

Normally, everything that is included in the DVD folder is burned (except the backups). The DVD folder is the parent of VIDEO_TS. (If VIDEO_TS doesn't exists when you launch the burn, it will be created, and the IFO, BUP and VOB files will be moved in the new VIDEO_TS folder.)

Anyway, when there are DVD-ROM files, if you click on the OK button, PgcEdit warns you, and asks if you really want to burn the DVD-ROM files. If you answer no, the folder is opened, so that you can remove the files manually, and launch the burn again.

Nope that didn't happen r0lz, when I called the OK button, all I got was a message saying:

"DVD size too big to fit on a DVD-9. Please remove some material or shrink the DVD."

Clicking the ok button just closed the box and dropped back to the Burn DVD dialog box, it didn't open the folder or anything.

But that's ok, cos the problem is solved! :)

That's right! It's because you cannot burn a DVD that large, even on a DL-DVD. The confirmation dialog pops up only when the DVD can be successfully created with the DVD-ROM files, otherwise, that "DVD size too big" error message is displayed.

Thanks r0lz for the clarification, I see what you meant now with the last sentence.

(I sorta misread it, and thought you meant it was supposed to do that even if the compilation was too big)
