Deleting and renaming avis

Hi

I have some problems moving, deleting and renaming avis. I'm using Winxp sp2 and when i try to rename an avi it says that it is in use and i cant rename it, but if i try 2 or 3 times then suddenly it works, sometimes it takes more trys..... When I'm trying to delete or move its the same, only after 2 or 3 trys I can do it. This problem doesn't occur with other filetypes. Does anyone have a suggestion for me ??

my guess it's due the shell preview of windows explorer.
to turn it off you must do "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" in the command line.

Hi,

In this cases, I open a DOS console (start->execute->cmd) and delete file with dos command "del" (probably rename is possible also with "ren" command)

There is also a little freeware called "Unlocker" which works pretty fine in such cases.

... and another solution is to change the file's extension to something else
and then delete it

Windows doesn't make a difference if you delete or rename a file, if it is locked, it is locked, there is no way around directly....

Another way, though maybe not possible, would be to use another OS which doesnt shield the user from what its doing. But I am biased, I know your problem since I have one last Win XP which sometimes has that same problem - and I am too lazy to use a "shell" on windows (cuz current shells on win platform IMHO are lacking a LOT) ;)
