Hi,
I have RB Pro v1.09.3 and have been getting stuttering on some backups when using AutoQmatEnc with a fixed matrix.The stuttering appears on the computer with MPC, and on my stand- alone player where the bitrate indicator has gone as high as 13.5 Mbits!
It appears that the bitrate is not being held below the original bitrate when using AutoQmatEnc?.

You may want to post that as an AutoQMatEnc error on the Official AQE Site (http://www.vmesquita.com/forum/index.php?board=41.0). You may even find some more information regarding it there.

@davidcw

AQE is great if you use it with QMatOp. Rate control is very strong constrained to uses of QMatOp. Redo your backup using QMatOp 'turn on' and I guess that you'll have a very good quality backup. ;)

One other note... you can't really trust the bitrates that players report if you are NTSC. The reason is that the DVD limitations apply to the rate as it is stored on the disc. When the SAP plays back the video of a FILM source it adds one frame for every four played in order to bring it up to 29.97fps. As a result the reported bitrate on the player will be 25% higher than what is physically stored on the disc.

But...

That isn't necessarily the problem in your case -- because the stuttering is usually a good indicator of bitrates that exceed standards and 13.5Mbs would still be too high even considering the 25%. I just thought I'd mention it as an informational note.

J Dobbs,
Thanks for the information, we are PAL here. The stutter definitely occurs only with scenes that have max bitrate.

I liked the combination of AutoQmatEnc and Saggitaires matrix.
It gave gave good results without causing a slight apparent change in contrast/greyscale which occurred with HC018.

The reason I didn't turn on QmatOpt was the extra time it took,
will try it for my next backup.
Thanks
