all I can regulate in the HT profile

Can I get more quality from XviD under the HT profile by regulating settings I don't have available in DivX like 'max consecutive b-vops', 'motion search precision', 'VHQ mode' and various others or also improve compressibility by using settings like the 'adaptative quantization' and still encode perfectly compatible files?
I understand there must be values of settings that might not be reached.
Does the existence of settings like those in Xvid give me chance to improve quality beyond the limit that the lack of those settings in DivX imposes?

P.S.: Never encoded or even tried XviD before, and couldn't find similar question by searching. I'm truly enchanted by the amount of regulations XviD offers under the HT profile.

Unless you use Simple Profile, there's really no "perfectly compatible", they all have quirks. What's your hardware player? If you search the forum for the chipset it uses you'll probably find lots of others' results with it, should give you the info you need or at least a starting point.

Some of the settings can certainly improve quality, you just have to figure out which are supported by yours if you don't want to use the defaults.

HT means 1 consecutive b-vop or none. You can increase VHQ, MSP should already be on full though. AQ is also fine.

Should be compatible with all standalones, even if it requires a fourCC change.

If you want to tweak things further (qpel, CQM's, etc.) then you need to use a different profile.

I've got the Pioneer DV-588A-s. She's got the Mediatek MT1389EE. We love settings!
