Editors, whats the best?

There are many video editors out there I'm very aware of that by now...

I currently do not have any movie editors on my computer. I know I don't want to use windows movie editor for some obvius reasons... Can anyone tell me what they like to use, and if they can send me a link for download. I don't have the funds to pay for a program so I'm looking for freeware if you have it :D

2) What type of editing do you intend to do (Simply cutting out some frames, or something else/more)?

I'm wanting cut frames, blend frames, invert some colour, just make it look snappy eh?
