Very sorry:( Is there anyway to change the thread title or would you suggest just having it deleted and starting over?

You can hit Edit on your first post. Then hit Go Advanced. You'll see an edit box for the title.

Medium size Authoring facilities uses Scenarist for their authoring because with it you have full control over the DVD. Also the programming (Pre-Post-Cell commands, jumps etc.) is more clean.
Warner and Sony use their own authoring products that is a mixture of hardware/software and are not sold to public. The only "available" system that allow the full DVD specs.(including seamless branching) is a Panasonic/Matsushita system (Scenarist doesn't support seamless branching) but is "out of business" for a lot of people since it cost near 180.000 $

I've seen both "SpruceUp"/"Spruce Technologies" and "Gear" indicated to be the authoring software on commercial DVDs...

Spruce products (like DVDMaestro) are discontinued products but they're also quite used nowadays but they aren't a "low level" authoring programs. I don't think Gear makes authoring software. I think Gear makes premastering softwares (like Gear Pro Mastering) that are useful to make DLTs from a DVD-9 compiled project if the authoring program doesn't have that feature. So probably the "Gear" label is written in the DVD rather than the authoring program that compiled the project.

At 180 000$, you can buy the new version of Scenarist, 2 versions
HD DVD version (Scenarist HD) and BluRay version (Scenarist BD)
with Cinevision (Scenarist Cinevision encoder),
with a HDCam Player (only player) and with Declink HD PCI card....

So these are the programs they use to make all the fancy menus and what not too, right? I'll stick with using the simple stuff I can do in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 5, haha.

So these are the programs they use to make all the fancy menus and what not too, right? You now seem to be subtly changing your original question.

To "make all the fancy menus and what not", you don't have to use the same software that's used by the creators of commercial DVDs.

You can obtain excellent results by using far less expensive software such as TMPGEnc DVD Author v.1.6 or DVDLabPro...

MF5 don't be compliant with BluRay. MF5 don't support VC1 or H264
for video codec, and DTS, DTS HD, Dolby Digital Plus or TrueHD for audio codec.

No GPRM, no subtitle, only Standard Content...

Oh, I haven't surf the Gear website for a while, my error... it makes authoring software... but... seems to me that they have a consumer products or at max prosumer products but not a truly professional authoring sw.

So Adobe Encore isn't professional? I always thought it was the best. Then again, I haven't gotten into the whole DVD authoring side of the DVD.

Dvd studio pro is used by one person I know (who authors professional dvds), but this is a mac product. Basically it's the successor to maestro.

DVD Studio Pro is commonly considered as a "DVDMaestro" successor but I think in fact is not really true... The current version of DVD SP support more "features" since it's an updated product but at the end the automatic "scripting" is worst and slow than the script produced by DVDMaestro or DVD SP 1 or 2.

Encore DVD is wildly over looked, and usaully bashed, true, 1.0 was, in comparison to most, poor, but it had some good features. I still use 1.5 now and again, when there is a need to. It has great photoshop support.

I've recently been setting up my new DVD authoring company, or at least trying to, I found whats needed is...

DVD authoring program - I use Spruce DVDMaestro which I bought a long while ago. There are alot out there.
Graphics Suite - Such as Adobe Photoshop (the most important), Gimp, Illustrator etc.
Video Editing - I've recently upgraded to Avid HD, but still use Adobe Premiere Pro. Plus you can use the audio functions to edit audio (I think)

They're the core, also useful are;
Compositing Programs - Such as Adobe After effects, Discreet Combustion, Eyeon [Digital] Fusion etc.
3D Packages - Alias Maya, 3DS Max, Softimage etc.
Audio Editing - Adobe Audition, Steinberg Nuendo, Sonic Foundry etc.
Software encoders - Canopus ProCoder, TMPEng, CCE, Surcode
Hardware - Audio & Video encoders

It all depends on what you want and how much money you're willing to spend. Adobe Media Suite is a good buy, with most programs you'll be using.
