Protect from import?

Hi,

Is there anyway to to protect XVid .avi files from import in programs like Adobe Premiere? I'm thinking about moving from RealVideo 10 to XVid, however, I don't like how XVid videos can be opened so easily in Adobe Premiere. Does XVid work with any other container?

XviD is just a video codec. Not really upto it what containers it works with, but rather upto the container to support XviD (ASP MPEG-4). An mkv containing native MPEG-4 could be your best bet considering the trouble people have with native AVC mkv's. Plenty of other containers though such as mp4, dsm, nut, nsv, etc.

When you say "native MPEG-4" do you mean H.264? Well, how would that compare to Xvid or DivX? (in terms of quality at the same bitrate)

No, native is simply a method of internally storing frames, as is vfw mode (which replicates how avi stores them and thus, they can be opened in vdubmod). Anyone determined enough can remux it into mp4 and open it in, say, avidemux.
