Not sure even if I am in the right forum.
Anywho, I installed ffdshow but don't like it and I remove it. Now not sure who's fault is but I see no codec anymore on my computer. No compressors in virtualdub's list (or any other app), no video codecs in system manager.
I know my way on computer and this never happened to me before. If u have any ideas please help.

Just reinstall the codecs, or reinstall ffdshow. If you configure it correctly you'll never know it's there, but it can be very handy.

Please, let's try not to be so rude to someone asking for help politely. teknerd, which ffdshow build did you install that caused the problem? I've heard of it happening with old xvid versions but not old ffdshow.

I downloaded the ffdshow-rev2546-20060716 build from free codecs and after I saw that BSplayer is crashing constantly cause of ffdshow I decided to remove it. So I did. And to my surprize all codecs gone.
I reinstalled now some codecs, I registered ax files
from system32 and I see (duh) that some codecs are back. But not all of them, actually the ones that cam default with windows microsoft Video 1 and Cinepack (others don't remember) .
Anywho, it's not a big problem cause I can reinstall, uninstall, remove , delete and so on cause i like it, but I just want to understand the problem. Just that!

Ouch, I'll tell clsid about that, I'm sure he doesn't want his build doing that.

In the meantime, here's my drivers32 key (http://foxyshadis.slightlydark.com/random/drivers32.reg), where all the (vfw) audio and video codecs are stored. If you import this you should get them back. The last five are extra codecs you'll want to remove if you don't have them installed. (If there are codecs you don't want, you can also change their VIDC to XVIDC or something like that, I usually do that for the ancient codecs no one uses.)

Now, let's be clear: I never said that because of ffdshow happened what happened. Maybe I have some virus who wanted to destroy my computer's capacity to playback some video files or my computer is possessed or , let's face it, we are talking about windows or, or (this one is good) i am with stupid and I fucked up my computer.
No, man, seriously I don't want to be a...I mean, if I am the only one with this problem is definitly me, right?

Probably used InnoSetup and flagged ffdshow's vidc key with uninsdeletekey instead of uninsdeletevalue. Easy enough mistake to make.

It wasn't my build. I think that build is from drevil_xxl.

@ tekNerd, try out the ffdshow builds from this topic (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=856809#post856809). I am sure you can find one there that doesn't crash.

foxyshadis and Koepi, you are both life savers. I had this problem once upon a time, I don't don't remember what caused all the default codecs to disappear. I was able to repair most but I was missing the MIDI mapper and didn't know how to install it.

With foxyshadis' registry entry I was able to find where the problem is and with Koepi's link I know where to point others who have the problem and need a simpler solution.
