I like to play back-ups of my TV episode sets (e.g. Sopranos, Six Feet Under) and use PgcEdit to "Jump to Main Menu" past the warning & startlogo. In checking the result with PowerDVD, I have noticed sometimes I'll select a menu (e.g. Episode Index) and it will briefly appear, but then skip to another (wrong) menu but then go back to the desired menu and finally stop there as it should. Thinking this to be an anomaly of PowerDVD 5.0, I've burned the resulting VIDEO_TS and they've always worked, to this point at least.
Well, I found myself unable to select an episode on one of my backups last night. I'd try to select episode 5 but it would play right-thru the animated menu and go instead to episode 6 menu. :(
I looked at my backup with PgcEdit and it navigates OK (lots of animated menus and something called "LinkTailPgc"s to get thru) and stops where it should. Again, it doesn't always stop for PowerDVD, and my Sony DVD player goes nuts with the thing, almost as if it's playing the VOB without respecting the navigational cues at all. With my Panasonic DVD player (my testing player) the menus work fine again.
In thinking about the problem I realize that another thing I do, besides doing a "Jump-to" over the 15sec intro/warning, is that I "Kill PGC Playback" of it, cuz I'm anal or paranoid or both. :o
I've never seen anything like my menu problem reported before--is it possible that by "Killing Playback" of the warning/startlogo pgc (a 15sec thing) I'm avoiding the setting of a flag of some sort that causes some players to not stop in the menus properly? Oddly, I have done a lot of discs this way and this is the first time I've made one where the menus run-on crazily without stopping properly.
