On P4 3GHz/1GB RAM:
want to process my DV camcorder scenes (PAL). I will view it on my PC only. I want the output 50p. Looking for quality but encoding time max 10-15x slower then realime.
1. DV codec-mainconcept
2.avisynth->vdub like this>
avisource(...)
Reinterpolate420()
deinterlacesmooth()
some fast denoiser #(processing time increase cca 50-100%)

3. encoding to XviD 2pass 8000kbps? or x264 will i be play it on 3GHz?

My questions:
Which fast denoiser (processing time increase cca 50-100%), dont want to change settings for more/less noisy scenes.
XviD or x264?
If XviD which matrix? Does x264 have matrices?
isnt better use konstant bitrate matrix-spare time by 1pass only?

8MBps? Unless you're aiming for HD-DVD/Bluray, don't bother with AVC, your system won't be able to play it. Xvid will work great though (in fact, even mpeg2 would). The 6of9 matrix would probably be best, check out the xvid presets thread for details for getting the best quality out of the codec.

As for fast denoisers, DeGrainMedian is always my first choice for realtime denoising. hqdn3d is also strong and fast. frfun7 and mvdegrain are excellent, but they'd probably push right past your 15x limit.

You may want to look into HDRAGC if you want somewhat automatic levels correction & enhancement. DV often seems to need it, if you don't have an expensive camera. It isn't too slow.

Take my word and forget these 50p out of 50i stories.
If you're really looking for good quality, encode to DVD-Video in interlaced mode.
Recent software DVD players do a nice deinterlacing job, especially that your source is not hybrid or something dubious like that.
