Capturing from Video to PC

My graphic card is MSI GeForce 6600GT. I have conected video and PC(graphic card) as follows: PC: S-VIDEO IN <- reduction S-video to cinch <- VIDEO: cinch OUT (video is old, without scart).

Problem is, that none capturing video program can’t find as a source my graphic card. PS: Capturing from DV camcorder and TV-tuner is working fine.

Can anyone help me ?

PS: What do you mean, what is best avi codec for on fly capturing/encoding VHS video from external source ? Now I am using Panasonic DV codec. For uncompressed capturing, I do not have so big HDD.

In this forum word best is avoided. My best choice could be the worst choice for you, as your case is different of mine.

On bussines. You can use PICVIDEO2 MJPEG codec (was free, but now is shareware). You can obtain 11:1 compression with little quality loss. All in real time. With a lossless codec (huffyuv, lagarith) also can encode in real time but compression obtained will be about 2:1 or 2.5:1. With the low prices of hard drives, I've attached a 160GB disk to my capture computer and actually capture uncompressed footage.
