View Full Version : Sync Issues

Just started using this process to encode HDTV .ts files to an avi file which will fit on a single dvd. At the moment I'm having a 60 to 70% success rate. The other files have a variety of playback issues, which are not evident in the source material. Can anyone give any help, or even just put me out of my misery and accept that some films are going to have to remain being split over a few discs.

The options I'm using are:

fixed file size / fixed width (1280) / original audio / manual cropping to remove bottom 8 lines.

The main issues are:

1) Everything looks fine but when played back (on a variety of machines and software), the video goes off at 2x speed whilst the audio is at 1x - obvious sync problem.

2) Encoded video pauses (sticks) occassionally but the audio continues uninterrupted - leading to a growing sync issue.

3) No obvious video pauses but audio out of sync.

As an aside, the films which are generally fine are bigger (circa 15 Gb), whereas smaller ones (circa 8 to 9 Gb) can be problematic.

Thanks in advance.

The problem is likely that AGK is not performing the correct field operation on your files. Sometimes this can be corrected by using Hidden Options to force them...

Which of the Hidden Options refers to field operations?

Hi,

I have no experience with HDTV but cropping out of mod 16 in AGK can result in unpredictable effects...

What "machines" (SAP?) can play your HDTV files?

I was referring to different pcs when talking about 'machines'. With HDTV sources you always get a grey bar along the bottom if you encode without removing the bottom 8 lines - there is an explanation somewhere on the site.

For information about the problem, it does seem that the doubling up of motion compared to audio does occur with reduced size ts files. I'm guessing that they have already been 'squeezed' from their original size to the current circa 8 Gb, and I somehow need to let AGK know this.

Which of the Hidden Options refers to field operations?Umm, "Force IVTC..." and Force deinterlacing...when hybrid".

If you want help, you will likely need to :logfile: for one of your problem conversions.

I'll try both options and see if I have any joy, but assuming that AGK has irreconsilable problems with certain files, which other software, commercial or otherwise, would people recommend to produce 4 GB HD files from my source material?

...assuming that AGK has irreconsilable problems with certain files...Well, we don't know that's the case, but you haven't given enough info here to tell.

I usually use StaxRip to convert my HDTV files, but it requires that you know how to select the proper field operation for the type of file you have (Video/Deinterlace? Film-based/IVTC? Hybrid of each?). Another tool you might try is MeGUI--it has a feature that will analyze the video for you and suggest a script.

I'll have a look at the other programmes you mention but what information would assist? The main problem I'm seeing at the moment is the racing video with normal speed sound. The video looks fine, and the audio is okay, but something convinces the players to run at 2x speed.
