View Full Version : Skip forward

I've just made a backup of Back to the Future (R2 / PAL) using DVD-RB 1.10.2 and CCE 2.70.02.06 (+ IfoEdit 0.96 for stripping unwanted audio and subs + VobBlanker 2.1.1.0 for blanking out all the other stuff I didn't need + RB-Opt 0.23 for adjusting the bitrate in the three VOB IDs: main movie and two sets of extras), and for some reason I'm not able to skip forward through the extras (more precisely The Making of) when using PowerDVD. The PowerDVD slider moves as it should, but the clip just starts from the beginning every time I move the slider forward.

Naturally, I've tested the original (or to be more precise: the basis for my encode, ie. the ripped, and yes, alas! pre-processed material in my input folder), and it behaves as it should: moving the slider forward forwards the clip.

I've seen this a couple of times before, but never really thought about it. But this time I'd like to correct it.

Could this be a DVD-RB bug? And if not, could anyone point me in the right direction with regards to correcting the prob in IfoEdit or PGCEdit (or any other program)?

Thanks!

OK, it seems it's got to do with the TMAP table not being updated correctly.

I copied my source VTS_02_0.IFO into my destination folder (containing my rebuilt DVD), overwriting the one already present, and then did at Get VTS sectors using IfoEdit. This seems to have corrected the screwed TMAP table and thus my problem (though I'm not entirely sure).

But I'm still wondering how come the time table didn't get correctly updated in the first place.

Any ideas - jdobbs?

Sorry, too much pre/postprocessing.... I have no way of knowing what is causing the problem or if it has anything to do with DVD-RB at all. Testing the "preprocessed material in my input folder" doesn't mean the source hasn't been pooch-screwed and might cause problems.

What happens if you just let DVD-RB do the disc without IFOEDIT or RB-Opt? Chances are it will work correctly...

dunno, i'll give it a whirl and get back with results

OK, i've run a clean 1:1 rip through DVD RB and these newly rebuilt files show none of the problems I encountered in my first (preprocessed) project. The entries in the new VTS_02_0.IFO time map match the source, and the clip progresses smooth along with the PowerDVD slider.

I never thought I'd be the guy to present a stupid problem caused by preprocessing, but there you go...

Thing is, like many users I preprocess all the time without encountering (noticable) errors. If a method works I'll stick to it, and my normal system has worked for a long time now: AnyDvd --> Dvd Decrypter --> IfoEdit --> VobBlanker --> PgcEdit (sometimes) --> MenuEdit --> DVD RB --> ImgTool

I may just be a bad habit, I'll have to change.

In any case, I'm deleting my project files and won't expect a solution.

Once again the jdobbs don't-preprocess-and-moan-about-it-comment applies ;)
