View Full Version : Sound is out of sync in rips

Out of nowhere all the rips i'm doing are turning out with the audio out of sync with the video. I have no idea why this is happening but it's happening with "the squid and the whale", "shopgirl", and "capote".
Anyone know what might be causing this?

Yes, they're Sony and Disney releases. If you're creating video file rips, the audio can be easily corrected post-conversion with VirtualDubMod, or pre-rip by using DVDFab Decrypter or RipIt4Me.

a while back i had the same problems concerning latest AutoGK 2.27,
i was using just the stock program and was using a version of anyDVD with some titles that was not using the latest protections,
and i was getting audio/video sync issues that i could not resolve,
after looking arounf the forum i found that there is a possibility that DGIndex could be a cause,
so here i am now and it's been at least 4 months,
i'm using AnyDVD 6.0.3.1
DVD Decrypter with adjusted settings (turned of all cracking capabilities as AnyDVD takes care of this)
however AutoGK hasn't updated for a while so i looked at the stock tools it comes with and decided to update them manually,
1st i updated DGIndex 1.4.6 > 1.4.8
2nd i updated VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 > Build 2542
and tried the same Dvd's i did then again now, which are:
Startrek 1 & 2
and everything worked great, no problems at all,
i used the same settings as before accept 1,
i changed the Auto Sound to Manual (CBR 256)
as using other programs i've come to realize that using VBR (Although gives superior results) just causes to many problems for some players, and when converting from AVI > DVD many programs just can't handal VBR Mp3, syncing these seems to be a major problem, so i decided to use CBR 256,
now i can't be sure what has resolved the issue for me, but i've done some other encodes, and again no problems at all at the moment (Touching wood).
i'm sorry i can't have more info, but i thought i should share my experience and perhaps you smarter people on the forums may have a theory,
but i'm very happy to have AGK working once again, been using Fairuse Wizard 2.5, and although it's a great program and has great potential (including having a wonderful ability to check for audio sync problems) there are some draw backs that slow me down to much, and causes certian restrictions as follows,
needs ISO image (Not VOB files)
prepreation is slower, as you have to click through about 4 screens first (taking 10mins sitting in front of the PC) before you can leave the PC to get on with the work,
where as AGK, you do 3 things (taking 20 seconds) and the rest is automated,
also fairuse wizard 2.5 has a problem supporting DTS tracks, where it thinks sometimes that the Audion track is DTS, and throws up a waring that DTS is not supported, i was hoping that the 2.4 > 2.5 update would of resolved this but it's not mentioned in the changelog so i was a little gutted that this wan't looked at,
but don't get me wrong fairuse wizard works loverly on films, just gets a little confused on Episode discs concerning the DTS sound problem mainly.
AutoGK is working once again, for how long who knows, if i do get any trouble with sync issues again, i will post on this toppic straight away,
p.s. perhaps autoGK could just update the install package with the latest version of the tools that come with it,
live long and prosper.
edit, i should also note that fairuse wizard has a amazing ability to detect what subtitles needs to be in the stream,
for example, star trek 1, has aliens called klingons, and when they talk in there lingo, you get the subtitles so you understand what there saying,
however AutoGK does not have this ability and cuts this information out, although one can find the correct stream and manually put this in AutoGK, but when you have 28 subtitle streams to choose from this can be very hard and time consuming to find the correct subtitle stream,
fairuse wizard seems to know and automatically choose the correct stream for you,
1 other thing i've noticed about AutoGK it seems to undersize quite often if the compression is high, and cannot achieve the target size,
where as Fairuse wizard has higher quality and will happily use the extra bits to reach requested target size.

Just posted in the decrypting section a quote from the Ripit4me guide: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=855272#post855272
that may be part of the problem.

Well I update those two files you mention (DGIndex, Virtualdubmod) and I still get out of sync voices and this is on pron which had no protection. I'm stumped. DivX creator works fine.

Hi,
Did you try CBR mp3? if yes and still synch problems, you can:
- Use Setarip_old how-to resynch mp3 with VdubMod solution (search for out of synch...)
- Use a longer and safer route (for movie with no protection only, more steps needed if protection):
* Rip with DVDDecrypter in "File" mode
* Open with DVDShrink and reauthor the movie (If you can't open or problem in DVDShrink there is a protection!)
* Feed AGK with that re-authored movie.
For movies with new protections( Disney, Sony, ARCCOS etc...)
use Riptit4me in movie mode (complete solution with DVDD/FixVTS/DVDSrhink) or normal mode + DVD shrink as above.

Ok i'll try it. I did use CBR. But my experiment was with an already copied movie only (through CloneDVD2) and then I reripped just one chapter (with CloneDVD2 and latest AnyDVD).

i also should mention that i don't use any codec packs, none at all,
what i did for codecs was,
1 - installed latest Xvid (i believe this is currently 1.2 Build 127)
2 - installed latest divX 6.2.5
then load media classic player 6.4.9.0
now follow-
View - options
external filters
add filter
xvid mpeg-4 video decoder
(Now on the right hand side, choose prefer)
this causes Xvid to have a higher priority over DivX,
Media type video

{5634504D-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}
i can't really sugest anything else, apart from the obvious
XP Latest updates
latest Avisynth
Ect.
although i can say, that i no longer use any codec packs, on paper they are great and needed so much,
but unfortunatly in pratice thay cause so many problems, and many occasions cause inconsistencies with each other,
as for other codecs i don't know, as i don't need or use any other codecs, as most media types these days are Xvid or DivX.
i'm sorry this hasn't helped for you, and i wish you luck, but in genereal i'm still using Fairuse Wizard 2.5, even though i'm glad AutoGK is working again, Fairuse wizard 2.5 seems to have the edge for my liking, it does have some draw backs granted, but it's very reliable and seems to make great automatic descissions for me and the fact that it can determine what subtitle stream i need in my view gives it a deffinite 10 points,
also it's great that i can choose a higher quallity setting if i choose to, in fact you can even put fairuse wizard in codec mode which allows you to adjust the codec for yourself, although i don't use this option (bit to advance for my liking)
1 last thing, if your using AnyDVD 6.0.3.1 (or any version for that matter) with DVD decrypter, make sure that dvd decypter options are disabled, as i'm not sure but having 2 programs doing the same thing can't be good, and i'm sure is not recommended.....
well i'm here now so here goes.
**General**
Remove Macrovision - NO
Check For Structure Protection - NO
**File Mode**
Untick All 6 options
Patch M2V Timecode (Not sure what this is, but i never use file mode so i can's say)
**IFO Mode**
Untick Remove Structure, RC, RCE, PUO's, VOB PUO's
Patch M2V Timecode (Not sure what this is, but i never use IFO mode so i can's say)
**ISO Read Mode** (I use this mode everytime)
File Splitting - None
Create MDS (needed only if your planning to burn onto Double Layer DVD-/+R
Untick All 5 Protection options
**CSS**
CSS Cracking Method - None
Detect Mastering Errors - NO
any other options are at your disgretion.
all cracking abilities are done by AnyDVD so having 2 programs cracking, or trying to detect/Fix errors, could in theory actually cause errors,
live long and prosper.
oh and once again, good luck,
but just for the hell of it try fairuse wizard 2.5 you may come to like it, and having 2 programs instead of 1 can also be good to, never hearts having a backup program in case 1 fails anyway,
just remember that with fairuse wizard you need to rip as a ISO, but overall, this is usually recommeneded anyway.

Porn is notorious about a/v synch issues after ripping. Have you tried resynching it with VirtualDubMod?

Ok Lip synch problems seem to be gone! At least 6 movies no problems. I rip now with RipIt4Me and the VTS-Fix add-on option and that seemed to do the trick (AnyDVD off). Thks all.
