Final Format Needs To Be Divx

I have a video clip I have captured with my capture card. I read online that since am in the USA it is best to capture at 29.97 frames interlaced.

The thing is, I now want the clip to be converted to 25 frames progressive and in divx format.

What is the best way to go about doing this?

I have noticed that the capture software allows to say how many frames to capture in. Should I change it to 25 frames and re-capture the clip? If the answer is Yes how will this affect how much of the clip I capture? If I capture less frames doesn't this mean I lose some of the clip?

Otherwise what is the best way to convert video/sound from 29.97 interlaced to 25 frames progressive I'm looking for quality over speed of convertion.

I have read stuff about it here and online, but I'm more than a little lost about it. I lot of places mention avisyth but I only know the basic use of it. also I assume if frame rate is changed that the sound needs to be altered as well. I have no clue how to do this.

This is why I wonder if it is possible without any loss in video to capture at 25 frames progressive from a USA TV.

It appears that you are asking how to convert NTSC to PAL. There are lots of threads about it. Please use search.

Better results can be gained with motion-compensated framerate conversion in avisynth.

He didn't say WHY he wanted 25fps. So I suggest saving yourself the trouble of changing framerates and sticking with 29.97.

Neuron2: Sorry about the breaking of rule #12. I know 'asking whats best' can not be answered objectively I was actually looking for people's opinion on the matter best or otherwise. And I should have made it more clear.

On the second quote I have in fact done a search and have been reading up on it. As was stated by MrTroy avisynth seems to be the way to go. At least that is what has come up a lot in the searches I have done.

On the one hand feel your reply is a little harsh. To me it came accross as 'learn to read you A**hole.' But on the other, it did point out to me that I could have made my post alot more clear.

I can't seem to get past the learning curve of using avisyth on a basic level. I guess is what it has comes down to. But I'll keep at it. I was just looking for someone who has actually been though the whole process or avisynth and/or 29.27->25.00 frame conversion.

Neuron2: No... That's ok I infringed a rule and as a memeber of the board you pointed it out.. As for my opinion of the reply being a little harsh that was just my opinion.... You replied saying it wasn't or at least not ment to be taken as harsh and thats fine...
