Working with a segment of source video?

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but how do you extract just a segment of a source video (from a DVD-rip) for a sample encode? Is it something in AviSynth? DGIndex? Thanks!!

Load the VOB(s) in DGIndex. Set a range as required using the [ and ] buttons. Save the project and serve as required with DGDecode.

No questions are dumb, in my view. It is the documentation that must be dumb. I'll review it and maybe add a section to the Quick Start guide.
