if you are gonna be buying a new system for video encoding...the core 2 duo's seem like the best bet...especially overclockd to 4ghz :D:D:D

I believe the Core 2 Duo is the reason why AMD is marking down their CPU's...;)

:)
Yes it is, so buyers can benefit from it. Questions are: what dual core? what brand? what ram?

Core2 might be faster, but with those reduced prices price/performance is likely still in AMD's favor... intel is going to milk the performance crown just like AMD did (I paid a load of cash for my X2 last June.. other people buy whole computers for that price).

of course. dont forget though that intel have had to change their prices in the past aswell. this is called competition and is good for us consumers. :)
as for the prices and reviews etc. please consider that if i am right the 5000+ will now be cheaper than an e6600, a 4600+ about the same as a e6400 and a 4200+ slightly cheaper than an e6300. thats just chip prices of course, if you add in motherboard and ram prices the differences can become quite a bit larger.
also you will want to check out multiple reviews, the more the better.

Where Conroe/Core 2 Duo wipes the floor with AMD is it's highly superior SSE performance. With the popular codecs supporting SSE and SSE2 instructions, I'd like to see benchmarks with these codecs and see just how much faster it really is!
Intel apparantly is losing money on each Core 2 Duo processor it makes, because it's selling them cheaply to undercut AMD's AM2 line.

I do not think that is the case. The prices were lowered on desktop chips on AMD and Intel's sides.
The core 22 does have gains but are they worth the cost for a full change? Motherboards are priced high, DDR2 ram does not have big gains over DDR, and not proven.
You can get a comparable AMD for less money and it is proven to work.
As a person I love it and want one. As a business, I will pass until the technology matures.

As a business, I'd get a fleet of P-D 9xx or low-end AM2 X2, always clocked down, with ddr2 and very efficient power supplies, just for the energy savings and low cost. Computers suck up tons of energy, especially since the owner has bought P4 dells with mediocre power supplies for so long. They're likely half our power bills each month.

Hi,
If clocked down why not DDR (and 939 mobo or dual RAM mobo for Intel) cheaper than DDR2 as there is no bandwidth issue?

Yep, some models from 2 brands:
FORTRON; around or above 80% efficiency
-350W FSP-350-60GLN for 47€, well rated
-400w FSP-400-60GLN for 55€, well rated
-500w FSP-500-60GLN for 99€, not well rated (too noisy)
SEASONIC; above 80% and near 85% for high models
-380w S12-380 for 67€, well rated
-430w S12-430 for 80€, not well rated (unstability of tensions)
-500w S12-500 for 105€, well rated
-600w S12-600 for 125€, well rated.
85% meaning, for 500w consumption, you need 588w at the plug instead of 714w for a 70% efficiency (not so uncommon)

Yes, I'm a big fan of silentpcreview and 80 PLUS, although those PSUs are much higher than the ones I'd pick. :p Pricing it out, a basic DDR 939 system comes out about a hundred less than DDR2 AM2, so you're right there.
