As you have probably seen, I've got some difficult questions on editing an existing menu.

How can I add a button to a motion menu including the button highlighting? I've searched the internet about information concerning the menu structure of a DVD and found out that the highlighting is simply a subtitle which gets activated when selecting a menu point. My guess for a solution to add a button is to demux the cell of the menu part, where the button is to be added, create a new button and reencode the video. Afterwards I would set a new button at this position in PgcEdit and link it to its destination, but how can I get the highlighting?

You are right. First you have to render the new button to the motion background. I use Adobe Premiere, but there are other programs (avisynth) that can do this.

If a simple rectangle is sufficient as highlight for your project, then you can add it with PgcEdit. You can chose the size, place, color and opacity very easy. For example underlining a text can be done within few minutes.

If you need more sophisticated highlight pictures, you can try this guide:

It works for still menus and for motion menus with sound too.

I have the opposite problem: how can I delete the button text in a motion menu background?
I’m trying with virtualdub and logo removal filter but it doesn’t look easy (I’m at the very beginning of video editing) and the first partial results are not really so exciting. Doing it to a still menu is quite easy using vobblanker and photoshop but for a motion menu I didn’t find lot of discussions or guides.

Here`s a tutorial for adding a extra button to a menu.

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=9B545F9D68D244FB

The program uses maestro and dvdremake.
But any authoring program and vobblanker will do the job just fine.

Editing an motion menu isn`t that different from a still menu.

Create a new project in photoshop in the right aspect ratio, create a transparent background and add a new button to the project.
Save the project as .psd.

Use pgcdemux or vobedit to extract a m2v from the dvdmenu.
Open this m2v in adobe premiere pro and put it on videoline 1.
Open the .psd in adobe premiere pro and put in on videoline 2.

The new button with the transparent background is now placed in a new layer in front of the menuvideo.

Save this adobe premiere project as a .m2v

Use the tutorial to mux the new .m2v in the old menu.

Finally I found what I was looking for and now I can't use the link given to me here. Can you tell me where and how to find that site/tutorial? I really really want it :thanks:

Adding or deleting a button belongs to the same issue. You create your own menu with some other programs(I use DVD Maestro). Then use VOB Blanker to replace the original menu with yours. After replacement, you copy the commands of the original buttons to your new DVD with the help of PgcEdit. When you are adding an extra button then add your defination with reference to that of the existing ones.
