Capture pin in virtualdub conflicting with custom size?

When I set custom size to 768x576 in capture mode, it displays "762 x 288 (default size)" in the capture pin. The avifile-output IS 768x576 however, but what does the capture pin mean, and why does it show conflicting numbers?

I have a bt848 card btw.
