Hi

Ive recently being doing a few Ch9 High Definition MPEG captures(1440x1080i) and converting to 700mb XVID/AC3 using the similar pixel ratio 1440x816 and worked treat. It produced a really high resolution that looked great on an full screen by using the usual tools, VisionPlus MPEG capture > PVAstramento demux > Cuttermaran edit > GordianKnot conversion to XVID/AC3.

However I dont seem to having the same success with a Ch 7 HD capture (720x576 progressive). Each conversion I've attempted always seems to produce a poor picture (relative) more like a SD conersion. I dont know if this issue, expected result or I'm not setting the DGindex or avisynth correctly i.e. Field operation, or any other gordian knot setting.

Anyone have any suggestions?
Should I be doing unusual like setting to 1440 and interlacing?

Thanks for any reply.

Ch 7 HD capture (720x576 progressive)

Are you saying that the captured stream is 720x576? If so
thats not HD.

Channel 7 in the LA area is ABC and their OTA HD broadcast is at 720p (1280x720). Most other 720p channels I've seen have a resolution of 1280x720. Either he's capturing the wrong broadcast or he thought the 720 referred to the width. Most likely the former. Hmm, and isn't 1080i usually 1920x1080?

In Australia channel 7's "HD" channel does broadcast at 720x576, at least some of the time anyway, so the original poster is not recording the wrong broadcast.
