View Full Version : Dolby Digital sync issues in DVD Lab

I've just recently been working on a project in DVD Lab Pro featuring Dolby Digital audio. Most of the clips I am using seem to have no problems with the audio if I use the original VOB file without demuxing. Two of the clips which come from the same movie however end up with no audio at all once the DVD has been compiled.

To get the audio to work, I must demux the VOB files into it's separate streams which is fine, but when the disc is compiled, the audio is out of sync with the video slightly (maybe only a couple of ms). One thing I have noticed is that when adding the audio stream from most Dolby Digital clips, DVD Lab doesn't like the stream and wants to repair it so it cuts it down. How can I get around this? I would prefer to use the original VOB file in it's original form if possible.

This syncing issue does not seem to happen with clips that have DTS audio tracks, even when demuxing. DTS ES tracks stay intact too it seems, whereas some Dolby Digital EX tracks appear to come out as ordinary Dolby Digital after compiling. Would there be some reason why DVD Lab does not like the particular stream? Could it be because the clips are cut out from larger movie titles?

In this project, the 2 clips in question as well as a menu are both within the same VTS and each clip comes from it's own VOB file. There are many other VTS files with their own menu and clips as well as several VMG menus. I have tried demuxing in VobEdit but DVD Lab still wants to repair the ac3 audio streams. I would try IfoEdit if I knew what to do. I use DVD Shrink for ripping, Nero 6 Ultra Edition for burning so I also have access to Nero Recode as well (but I still like DVD Shrink better). Compiling a similar project in Nero Vision gave me no trouble as all I would have to do is copy the original vob files into the compiled folder to keep the original audio tracks. It does not allow for very complex menus though...

There should be a "set delay" function in DVDlab somewhere. I have seen it already. Have a search in the manual.

yeah, i have tried that. doesn't seem to make any difference.

i have recently noticed similar sync issues with DTS, but it's harder to pick up on than the Dolby was. I have resorted to sticking each movie clip into it's own VTS, doing a compile in DVD Lab then copying the original VOB files into the folder later before fixing up the navigation in PGCedit. Seems to be doing what I want now, but it just takes more work than something like this should.
