I want to convert my dvd to mpeg. I guess this would be VOB to MPEG II. Anyone know of a program that does this without too much complication? I have some programs (DVD Decrypter, Nero - version 6, FabGold, dvdshrink, DvdRemake Pro,PgDemux, Muxman, Sonic version 7.22, InterVideo Windvd (version2)but I can't see where you go to do this on any of these programs (if these in fact can do this type of conversion).

I am a Windows XP user.Apprecate any help anyone can give.

The video data in the vob is already in MPEG2.

What exactly are you trying to acheive?

I am trying to work on a project with a program called Pinnacle Studio (version 10). I am trying to introduce some of the content on my dvd into the project. Studio only is able to work with avi or straight mpeg2.

Yes you are right vob files are already in mpeg2 but the sound is muxed. With straight mpeg2 it is not and it is this format that Studio recognizes.

Okay.
Demux the VOB into elementary streams (video & audio)
This can be accomplished in a number of apps..DVDD DGIndex..pgcdemux

DGIndex - (File / Open) Select vobs from DVD - File / Save Project & Demux Video

DVDD - Insert DVD ,select IFO mode, select apporiate VTS/PGC,select stream processing ,enable stream processing, then select video & audio ,click Demux checkbox on EACH .

DGIndex(DGMPGDec) might be a good choice for you, just load in all your vobs, then just use the `[` and `]` to cut out your needed material.

The Doom 9 forum has been down for 3 or 4 days (at least in this part of the world) so I wasn't able to post a reply.

Gehenna, I tried one of your suggestions and used pgcdemux to demux the audio and video. This went through fine but end file was not in Mpeg2. I could not see how to get this to Mpeg2 (unless I had the wrong selections ticked or unticked in this program) or is there another step?.

I tried anyway after pgcdemux to remux using Muxman but this produced the end result of a vob file not a staright Mpeg2 file which takes me right back to the starting point.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Demux to ES. Remux to MPEG using Imago Muxer.

Neuron2, thanks for the 2nd part of my solution. Imago Muxer worked perfect for me. I had tried ImToo MPEG Encoder on someone's suggestion but found the end result had lost picture quality (original was much sharper). But with this program there does not seem to be any loss in picture quality.
