View Full Version : CCE running much slower

I've been using DVD-RB Pro and CCE SP 2.67 retail for some time now doing 6-pass encodes in about 2.5 - 3 hours. Recently, it has started taking 8-10 hours. I'm not really sure what has happened, I haven't made any significant software/hardware changes. My system config is as follows:
P4 840D 3.2GHz Extreme Edition
2 GB RAM
Source/Working directories are on different HDDs (both of which are SATA)
I get speed readings around 2.0 in CCE, not sure how fast it was previously as I never paid attention until now.
Any help would be appreciated.

assuming that you are on Windows, check the task manager to see what other programs are running in the background that might eat up resources.
worst case scenario: virus.

are you sure you were doing 6-passes before? 2.5-3 hours for 6-passes seems a little too quick imo. i have an opteron 144 939 at 2.65ghz, 2gb of memory, and CCE 3 passes usually takes me around 2 hours (more or less), or 3 hours for REALLY long movies, like LOTR.
you might also want to defrag your harddrive once in a while, especially if you do a lot of DVD encoding. defragmenting a horribly fragmented HDD can shave off 20-30 minuites alone.

The CCE process uses about 60% of my resources. No malware or resource hogs running. Virus is a possiblity, I'm usually careful about that stuff though but I'll do a scan anyway.
Rahzel, at first I thought it could have been my foggy memory as well but a 'Speed' reading of 1.8-2.0 seems pretty low for this setup.
Well, to get a bit performance back you might want to try my DGDecode 1.1.1 which is heavier optimized, it works especially well with P4s; you can get it from

I really recommend the there included new Skal idct (#6) which offers great quality at excellent speed.

I can also recommend NaN's DGDecode 1.1.1.
I have been using it since he first posted it here @doom9.
The Skal idct is the one I use (I did use the 64 floating point, but is very slow).
There is easily a 5 to 10 percent increase in speed :D depending on system and source with no, IMO, apparent loss in quality.
