Ok, I'm trying to find any info on this that I can, but search is turning up nothing.

I need to convert a QT compliant .mp4 file to .mov format without reencoding. Is there a QT muxer other than QT Pro, or could I use that?

The scoop is that I have made QT and iPod compatible clips, but they need to be in .mov format to be added to an iTunes podcast.

Thanks in advance!!

I am looking for exactly the same for a while now. I didn't find out how to even use QT Pro for that. Interestingly the other way (MOV->MP4) is supported by QT Pro.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Is there an option in QT that passes the stream through as opposed to re-rendering? I get a list of encoding types, but the only one that might be pass-through is "none" but that seems to me more like it'd output RGB.

IIRC, ffmpeg is able to do that. At least, a build from a fresh svn co.

itunes should handle h264/aac mp4 files afaik

still i would guess the most reliable tool for creating mov from mp4 is qt...

iTunes, the software, can handle the MP4 file yes... But for the RSS podcasting to work from iTunes Music Store, it won't. It has to be a "Quicktime" file, which means a MOV. It won't allow bring the MP4 into the podcast.

About QT, it will not convert MP4 to MOV, thought it will MOV to MP4... How odd is that? You would think that they would want everything to be in their proprietary format, not the other way around.

LOL
I think that you have only to use save as movie under file, but I haven't ever tried it. I'll test it.

I think you can passthrough the audio & video streams in quicktime when you save as mov. Check under the advanced settings.
