Hey, I have a dvd(legal dvd, not copyrighted) that plays just fine in my dvd player and on my compter. However, when I go to burn it, I put it in the drive and click copy, then about a third of the way into the ISO image copying stage, it says it has an error. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Is there anyway that I could bypass this portion of the disk? THank you.

More than likely your question can be answered using Search. There's not much anyone can answer for you without more information, such as the software you tried to rip it with, or the log or actual error message you received.

thanks....I'll do it again and remember the error message. i think it said something like repetitive...probably not though. I was using the freeware dvdshrink and dvd decryptor(which is where it gave me the error) It does the same using Sonic.

The cyclic redundancy error usually indicates a scratched, or dirty disc. Clean off your disc and try again. I've always relied on DVD Decrypter to rip the original, then process that file in Shrink and manually burn. You might also want to search out your title and see if it's ARccOS protected; if so, run a search on how to defeat that protection scheme, or post back on that issue if you're confronted with it.

It is perfectly clean and has no scratches at all on it.

There was a release of a TV series of that name in Canada this April (see e.g. http://www.cinemaclock.com/dvd/dvd.aw/p.cq/r.que/m.Granby/j.e/i.978773/n.1/f.Are_You_Afraid_of_The_Dark__First_Complete_Season.html, but it's also available at e.g. DDD Canada). No idea if we're talking about the same series here, though ...

As ammck55 noted, cyclic redundancy can be caused by dirty or scratched media. It is a read error, so there are other causes as well. Less common, but one I've encountered, is write errors when the disc was pressed or burned. Running a read test using Nero, DVDInfoPro or the like will show if there are such errors. I've seen DVDs with this problem that played well, but wouldn't record. It's worth a check, and if you don't have the software, DVDInfoPro has a free version.

yeah, i think it has a read error, is there any way around that?

i think it has a read error, is there any way around that?Return it to the place of purchase, in exchange for a new replacement...

setarip_old gave you the best option if you can still do that. If it's past returning, some rescue software can read through the error area so you can backup the DVD.

Which rescue software?

First of all I'd do that read scan to insure that is the problem.

No more than I use that type app, I only keep a copy of XRescue loaded on my system. That one is harder to find nowadays and even harder to activate. I got my XRescue back when I got XCopy from 321. I got a refund before they went out of business (they guaranteed lifetime support), so I didn't get burned like some people did. XCopy is obsolete, but the XRescue still works good. You may be able to find a similar app.

Unless you do a lot of movies where you encounter the write/read error problem occasionally, it wouldn't be cost effective to buy an app for just the one problem.
