Hi.
Virtualdub and VirtualdubMOD won't let me compress audio with the Lame MP3 if I choose a bitrate under 128kbps. It lets me choose lower is I use lower than 48000hz, but if I do, the audio sound very slow like in slow motion.
Here is the error message when I try 48000hz and lower than 128kbps:

The lame acm codec doesn't have the option to use 112kbps at 44100hz or 48000hz. You are better off encoding with lame.exe and muxing in the audio.
If you want to use a lower bitrate with lame acm, you need to RESAMPLE before you select the setting with the lower samperate and lower bitrate.
Use the 'conversion' option to convert the audio to the appropriate samplerate.

Is there another mp3 codec/audio that can be used in AVI I can use? With good compression.

LAME.exe can do what you need. You can download the latest from http://rarewares.org/mp3.html

But then I have to demux the audio from the avi first I believe. Is there no way to do it with just "compression" in Virtualdubmod?

Hi!
You could purchase the Fraunhofer MPEG3 audio codec...

why would anybody purchase any mp3 codec? lame is clearly the winner in quality and certainly in price

Futurex - if you did not intend to do anything but mock around, don't reply. I will most likely not buy the Frauenhofer codec, but I don't need anyone to tell me. Thanks, Setarip.

Buy? Why bother. You can
a) search for radium
b) download the windows media player 10 setup, and extract l3codecp.acm out of it and install it manually
note: both lowpass terribly low at 112kbps and 96kbps. You ARE better off using lame.exe and muxing in the audio.
