What i want to do is this: Backup all my dvd's to a hard drive/server and then have like a pc box type thing hooked up to the tv and that can can acess it and load the movies i have backed up as the .iso or the in file form. what i need is the os that will let me select and mount and play the backed up dvds. any help on this would be good.

There are many out there, ranging from the free (Daemon Tools) to the pricey (Nero Image Drive). You can also play an .ISO directly from Video Lan Client, no need to mount it.
