I've been trying to make a Divx AVI of Madagascar from a disk I made using dvdshrink using autogk and the file plays fine on my pc using windows media player (audio in sync), but when I put the file on my Archos AV500 the audio is out of sync. What gives?

It is party due to the fact that you're making a copy of a copy. You should return to the source disk instead.

@Roveer
Hi!
1) Have you previously been successful at converting and playing other such DivX-compressed .AVIs on your Archos?
2) Are you certain that the DivX-compressed .AVI plays properly (without losing synchronization) under Windows Media Player?

<ahem> Rule #6, setarip_old.

I'm not sure R6 applies quite yet, CWR. Shrink might have been used as part of a protection schema management process. Madagascar requires special handling.
I've never dealt with that film, but it has been discussed many times across most of Doom9's forums. A search with that keyword shows 55 different threads -- 4 of them here in the (A)GK forum, 2 of them in the DivX Encoding forum, and one in the XviD forum.
I'm moving this to the H/W Players forum, where there may be more specific skillsets among its readers to assist with this particular problem.

I'm new to Archos but everything else I've Divx'd and put on it has worked just fine. I know I can Vdub it and correct the AVI by offsetting the sound, just wasn't sure if this was a known quantity or not. I did read a bunch of other threads on this, but nothing zoned in exactly on my problem (not that there isn't a thread someplace). Don't mind CWR03, he busts me on rule violations on all my posts. He's a helpful guy.

@CWR03I've been trying to make a Divx AVI of Madagascar from a disk I made using dvdshrinkThis (or using DVD95Copy to compress instead of DVD Shrink) is the same method I use for creating DivX-compressed .AVIs from my purchased DVDs. I don't see why a question should even come to mind...

Roveer@:
I have the Archos GMINI 402, It's smaller than the AV500 but I think it's more or less the same firmware.
There is a synch problem (Firmware, probably). The audio stream in your avi has to be CBR 44.1 Khz, because if it's something else, like 48, 32 Khz or even 44.1 but VBR you are going to get synch problems... I've already informed the people from Archos about this problem and they promissed to have a solution as quick as possible.
