sync problemos when splitting type-2 and rejoining vid+audio later?

I capture my DV-content to avi (dv-format)
Then I convert the avi type-1 to type-2.

And because AGK normalizes audio in de process of converting to xvid
(wich will give bad end results when only spoken word was on
the dv clip with fair amount background noise wich will be
ampilified to enormous irritating amounts),

I thought I'd split the avi in video and audio, then encode the
AVI type-2 video wihtout the audo-track in AGK.
Then lame encode the audio to .mp3 and then join the 2 in vdubmod.

1. Is this a good idea? Could I have sync issues (audio video) this way if AGK drops frames during encode of video ?

2. should I use cbr or vbr for the mp3 audio to minimize sync problems?

3. I have the 'Main Concept' dv-codec installed. It seems to be a good one. With minimal quality loss.
What codec does my AGK use when reading/analyzing my dv-content?
I uise AGK 2.20

1. I wonder why AGK - or XviD - should drop frames during encoding. I don't think it does, so you shouldn't get sync issues.

2. Generally speaking VBR is a bad idea in conjunction with the AVI file format. Use CBR to avoid sync issues.

3. Provided that you don't have other DV VfW Codecs installed, AGK should use your MainConcept codec.
