help??? with doing DVD's of video footage

Hi
I have a few questions to ask somebody.
Having just returned from Italy, I copied the camcorder footage to Pinacle 9, added photos, title overlays and some sound tracks
twice now i have clickeed Create DVD and the computer has crashed.
Before I went away, I tried to do a 5 min video of my granddaughter running around and although it said it had written DVD successfullym the result was blank.
PLEASE can sombody help me??? I have spent so many hours up here in my office, my husband is beginning to wonder who I am?
I'm using Sonic MyDVD to write the DVD's but have tried doing it from within Pinnacle aswell - tpo no avail.

PS last year I was managiing to do some (creating DVD's) successfully, but now, when I try to view some of them - half of them don't appear to work??????????
I really am in a BIG quandry. Just can't see what is going on.

Difficult to tell without being there, but here are the likely suspects:

1 - Your DVD burner might be dying. Insert some "company made" music CDs and DVDs and see if they'll play. No biggie if it needs replacing, a new can run as little as $40.


2 - It might be your blank media - at least you must rule it out. Buy a 3 pack of another brand, or get a new spool of something other than the brand you are currently using. The coating on many brands of DVDs begins flaking after a year or two - eventually, there's nothing left for the DVD laser to read. A non technical way of finding better quality DVDs is to look for the "Manufactured in JAPAN" label on the side of the packaging - You may have to go through half a dozen or more different brands until you find one made in Japan. Disclaimer:There are always exceptions and this is a general rule of thumb.

Can you do an image of the DVDs you created instead of buring them. Or save the created VOB-files to your harddrive first.

You can use VideoLanClient or Mediaplayer Classic to view the files form the harddrive. Even WinDVD and PowerDVD can play DVD contents form harddrive. I mean with this: check first if the files are correct before wasting DVD media.

If you have the files M2V (Video), AC3, WAV (Audio) as single files and not muxed to MPEG you can try DVDLab to create the DVDs, but normally P9 and MyDVD should do it.

For the computer crash: Maybe it is a known bug using some hardware. Try to go to the homepage of pinnacle to update the software. I'm working in a electronic shop. Pinnacle 9 is known for that.

It can be the DVD burner, but it musn't. Try first to write the files on harddrive before replacing the DVD burner drive.

For testing are short movies good or cut some scenes out.
By writing on the harddrive no dvd media will be wasted.
