I'm using Nero to re-encode my .AVI video to the correct format and burn it to disc.

Is this a good solution?
I've tried other ways of encoding but they don't work.

Previously I used bbMPEG - AVI2MPEG2 to convert my file but it didn't work, I checked the format of the file and apparently it is MPEG-3 but it is displayed as .AVI so I assume it's wrong.

:confused: :confused:

@Twicetest

If this is a one-off conversion you should do fine with Nero, but if this becomes a regular thing for you or you have several conversions to do, I recommend you try SVCD2DVD (http://www.svcd2dvd.com/). Uses ffmpeg to encode and handles all the authoring as well.

As others have said, if Nero works and you're happy with the results, it's a good solution.

If you are going to be doing this frequently, you may wish to evaluate some of the numerous solutions available.

SVCD2DVD has been mentioned - I haven't looked at this for a while and didn't know it supported SVCD output. There is also TrustFM's AVI2DVD which will do this and is very newb-friendly. You will also find DVD2SVCD mentioned quite a bit here and this will also do the job. Whilst the user interface is rather more complex than the other solutions mentioned, there is a good guide to get started on the Doom9 main site. Also the range of options gives you a lot of flexibility which may come in useful if this is to be a regular thing for you.

But the best solution is the one YOU'RE happiest with and of course there can only be one judge of that...

Whoops - sorry, ignore my previous post as SVCD2DVD will not encode to SVCD (read the authoring part and thought *DVD*).
