i noticed when i select MPEG standard with DVD-RB Pro, it uses a different intra matrix than what RME says.

MPEG standard intra according to RME:
08 16 19 22 26 27 29 34
16 16 22 24 27 29 34 37
19 22 26 27 29 34 34 38
22 22 26 27 29 34 37 40
22 26 27 29 32 35 40 48
24 27 29 32 35 40 48 58
26 27 29 34 38 46 56 69
27 29 35 38 46 56 69 83

and this is what was used:
08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15
09 10 11 12 13 14 15 16
10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17
11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18
12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19
13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20
14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21
15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22

however, the non intra numbers were the same.

also, what is the "intra" and the "Non Intra"?

Extracted the matrix after the movie was encoded? to get this kind of Matrix

yes, encoded with MPEG Standard selected, and i extracted the matrix with RME, and those are the numbers that were used. CCEAQM was not enabled btw.

reading the changelog for DVD-RB Pro, it says:
Changed the "MPEG Standard" matrix so it is updated to what is generally considered more "standard" today.
it also says that this was only changed in the Pro version, not the freeware version. is this the reason why? i'm assuming so...

Yes. But you could make any matrix and call it "MPEG Standard", so RME is just showing what is in the "MPEG Standard" Matrix description file.

thanks jdobbs.

could someone answer my second question, though?

what do the intra and non-intra values signify?
