Need to play 2 language versions at once

I am looking for a player that can play video and two synchronized audio versions at the same time, each audio to a different sound device (sound card). The purpose is to allow two people to listen to a film, each in their preferred language.
Ideally it would play a commercial DVD that carries multiple language versions, but I could live with having to preprocess the DVD.

I doubt you will be able to find any commercial player that will do this. The easiest solution I can think of is to re-encode the audio tracks into mono streams and encode the two streams as a single stereo track. Then you can split the physical cable output to both headphones/speakers.

I wonder if there would be something like that designed for karaoke?

Works fine here in Graphedit. So it is at least possible.

It is a shame to lose the stereo! Is there perhaps an audio player that will play the audio but use an external timer for the frame number/ frame rate (I dont know the correct terminology). That, combined with a video player that outputs a timing signal should make it possible. You'd need a coordinating program that starts the video player and two instances of the audio player and routes the signals accordingly. Any idea where to look for stuff like that, or terms to search on to find it?

You might find it helpful to know that, as an experiment, I was just running two concurrent iterations of good ol' MS Windows Media Player v.6.4, playing .VOBs from two different DVDs - and was able to hear the audio from both.

Because of my setup (and my aging hearing ;>}) I can't be certain but, I believe that by setting one of the iterations to full left speaker only and the other to full right speaker only, I was getting only one audiostream on the left side and only the other audiostream on the right side...

No left/right with graphedit. I added to different audio devices and had audio from my speakers on one sound card and headphones on the other.

I guess you could see if any player would play the graph file properly? Every player I have ever use was obviously designed for one audio device only since they only have one volume control.

Thing is though with most MB's having onboard audio, I would think that the majority of people actually have 2 audio devices these days.

The easierst solution is still to play it back at two machine - one at desktop, the other at laptop or standalone dvd player(with divX decoder chip).

Another solution is to rip the audio to mp3 and play it on a mp3 player.

Graphedit is the only solution for the "synchron" problem.
