Hello.

This is my first attempt to capture video from my Digital Camcorder (Panasonic PV-GS16) tape and I ran into some problems.

I have it connected via a Firewire cable and the PC recognizes it right away. When I go in to the capture program (tried both Movie Maker and Nero Vision), I can control the camcorder with the Fast Forward, Rewind, Stop, Play, and Record options in the software.

But when I use Play or Record, the video does not show in the preview window (stays black) and the video will not record.

I do not have any special drivers loaded, which I believe are not required. The wierd thing is that it IS communicating over the Firewire cable but I cannot get the video to transfer (Play or Record).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've never used the above mentioned tools to accomplish this but since they're working to a certain extent (video is showing up / controlling works) I cant really tell you where the problem is.
As you said there is special driver needed for this. I would try with a different capture application - WinDV. If that doesnt work either I'd check the cable and the 1394 card and also if the camcorder works on another computer / card.

What video card do you have?
If you record and watch the video after can you see it? Some times while recording a video, the preview goes black and when you are finished the output file is fine.

Is there any sort of output option for the camera?
