virtualdubmod won't open at all?

I don't understand this. I installed virtualdubmod. Put in all the needed dlls, but when I click the exe, nothing happens at all. Nothing! Very weird. Virtualdub and virtualdubmpeg2 both start just fine. Can anyone offer an explanation, or even better, a possible solution? I'm at my wits (and there aren't much of that left either, hehe) end here. Thanks for any help.

1) Do you see Virtualdubmod.exe in the Task Manager at least?
2) Does this happen with all the builds of VirtualDubMoD? Which build are you using? Did you try another build?

empty AviSynth plugin folder and try again.

I tried all the virtualdubmod versions, up to the latest. None worked. No, I don't see virtualdubmod in the task manager. If I check the task manager, I see it make a very brief appearance when I click on the exe, then disappear. I'll empty the avisynth directory and try again if you think that will help. No message that it's missing a dll. All dlls are installed anyway.
